Thank you, Steve: an interactive tribute to Steve Jobs (1955–2011)

Fifteen years after we lost him, fall through the screens of the machines Steve Jobs made, hear his own voice, and light a candle for him.

  1. 1976, Los Altos: a garage workbench, the Apple I that Steve and Steve Wozniak built by hand, and a TV for a screen.
  2. 1984: Big Brother on the big screen, the hammer, and the Macintosh that said hello.
  3. 1985 to 1996: pushed out of Apple, he started over. NeXT, the computer the first web browser was written on at CERN, and Pixar.
  4. 1997: back at Apple. “Here’s to the crazy ones,” read by Steve, and the translucent iMac.
  5. 2001: the iPod, a thousand songs in your pocket, playing his words.
  6. 2007: the iPhone. An iPod, a phone, an internet communicator. Are you getting it?
  7. One more thing: he saw it coming. In 1985 he imagined asking a computer a question and getting an answer. In 2010 he said PCs would become like trucks.
  8. October 5, 2011: an empty stage, a candle on a phone, a sea of lights, and notes from everyone who remembers him.
